A planed cross party protest outside the East Riding Community Hospital turned into a heated debate with angry words being exchanged between activists and local officials.

Organised by the MP Graham Stuart, the protest was supposed to present a united front sending out a united message over the possible closure of the hospital in Beverley.

Mr. Stuart wrote and invited local parish and county councillors from all parties to join him for the protest as well as members of the public.

While no members of the public turned up to lend their support to the protest the local Labour Party did turn up on mass armed with banners carrying slogans calling for the NHS to be saved.

Those that had  come to support the MP and his campaign soon turned on one another as everything  went the other way with members and supporters of the Labour Party pointing the finger of blame for the cuts at Mr Stuart and the Conservative Party.

George McManus was again right in the middle of the debacle. A Labour activist he challenged Mr. Stuart ethics and his parties policies towards health and NHS.

Mr. McManus was then challenged by his regular sparring partner of recent times Cllr Bryan Pearson. However following lots of finger wagging both men decided to go their separate ways avoiding any repeat of ‘Poster Gate’ which saw the same pair clash in the centre of Beverley during the elections.

With nothing productive being achieved, more left, including the Mayor of Beverley Cllr Robert Begnett  leaving others to carry on their debates in the car park of the Community Hospital.

What should have been a show of force from a united community, regardless of their political beliefs, crashed and burned in a dramatic fashion.

When those involved have time to reflect on what happened maybe they will realise that this was an opportunity lost to ‘Send a Message’ to the people who will make the final decision over which facilities will stay, and which will go.

  1. When Graham Stuart has the sheer audacity to vote for these cuts in Westminster but oppose them to get good publicity from Tory rags like this one, a bit of finger wagging and open debate is the least he deserves! VOTE HIM OUT! HE IS A LIAR!!!

  2. The book stops at the Tories who are out to kill the NHS as we know and Labour was right to call it how it was.

  3. Just thinking if the Tories are out to kill the NHS which party introduced the British people to PFI hospitals . Something we will be paying for , for a very long time.

  4. Typical looney leftie MuckHead brains McManus. Crawl back into your attic and play with your train set
