Festive gifts, food and entertainment will be on offer when Beverley holds its annual Christmas Eve market.

The market, on Saturday 24 December, will be open from 9am and 4pm and will give shoppers a last-minute chance to buy presents and produce for the holidays.

Beverley Brass Band will be playing Christmas music through the day, and the seasonal stalls in Saturday Market will include a roast chestnut stand.

Richard Lascelles, markets officer at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“We hope people will come and support the Christmas Eve market and we’re very grateful to Beverley Brass Band for coming along to entertain shoppers.”

Beverley’s stallholders have already been getting into the festive spirit.

Earlier this month the traders took part in the annual best dressed stall competition, decking their stalls in Christmas decorations. The winner was Sophie Lazenby, from Hull, who has a jewellery stall.

Sophie, and her dog Dillon, were presented with the second annual Allan Gorbutt Cup, which is named in memory of Allan Gorbutt, who was a well known stallholder at Beverley market for 48 years until he died last year.

Allan’s daughter Vicky Neilson presented Sophie with the cup, alongside last year’s winner Lisa Gray.

Motorists are advised there will be no parking on Saturday Market on Christmas Eve until after the market is cleared.

Beverley market will return on New Year’s Eve, Saturday 31 December, but there will be a reduced number of stalls.
