Treasure House In Beverley Unveils Its Events Programme For 2017

The Treasure House at Beverley has unveiled its programme of exhibitions and events for 2017, and will be playing a major role in Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council – a Principal Partner in Hull 2017 – has published the programme of events, which includes the prestigious 52nd Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition from 11 February to 22 April, on loan from the Natural History Museum.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a varied programme of family events, talks and photography workshops, including a spectacular family event on Saturday 18 February.

Other highlights of 2017 will include a six week course in life drawing beginning in June; the first ever author ‘speed dating’ event in June; an exhibition of Studies of Indian Life in early summer; an exhibition looking at the British Holiday Camp, from July to September; and another exhibition exploring the margins of urban living, next autumn.

Later in the year, there will be a ‘Cultural Pilgrimage from Beverley to Hull’, a colossal work of art presented by digital artist Gary Saunt, in celebration of Hull 2017.

Throughout the year, there will also be a programme of talks and workshops on a wide range of cultural topics, and opportunities for people to learn new skills will include courses in family history in the Archives, and the Heritage Open Day in September.

Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said:

“I am delighted that the Treasure House in Beverley is able to offer such a fabulously diverse programme next year, contributing to Hull UK City of Culture 2017. We know that the Wildlife Photographer of the Year will prove hugely popular, and I look forward to the rest of this exciting programme building on that momentum.”

Martin Green, CEO and Director of Hull 2017, added:

“Next year’s programme for the Treasure House in Beverley includes exhibitions that are sure to bring in the crowds and are another reason for people to visit our region during our City of Culture year. I’m particularly pleased that it also offers people the opportunity get involved, encouraging them to get involved and unleash their creativity.”

The Treasure House programme 2017 booklet is now available for the Treasure House itself, the Tourist Information Centre in Beverley, and from East Riding libraries.
