
The Royal British Legion’s Beverley Poppy Appeal 2016 has so far raised more than £46,000.
Since the annual Appeal launched on 29th October 2016, Beverley’s fundraising team collected in local supermarkets, shops and schools.
Rod Evans, Beverley’s Poppy Appeal Organiser (PAO) has been overwhelmed with the support and generosity of the general public in the town have shown.
Mr. Evans speaking commenting on the how the appeal went said;
“We are thrilled at the generosity of the people of Beverley and the surrounding area. I would like to thank all those who took part in the Appeal, both collectors and those who donated.”
“The Royal British Legion received over 780,000 calls for help last year and the money raised from the Poppy Appeal goes towards the Legion’s work with current Serving personnel, veterans and their families including providing crisis grants, researching the impact of blast injuries on the body, lobbying the government on key issues, and advising on benefits and money problems.”
Community Fundraiser for East Yorkshire, Stuart Lythe paid tribute to the people of the town saying the work of the British Legion is only made possible by support shown by residents, he said:
“Individuals and families from across the generations of our Armed Forces community need the Legion’s support, as well as our older veterans.”
“The Royal British Legion’s vital work wouldn’t be possible without Beverley’s generous support and we hope that our campaign this year we will help people understand who they are supporting when they donate.”
“Every donation received will make a real difference to the lives of Service men and women, veterans and their loved ones and the money raised will go a long way to helping those in need.”
The fundraising will go towards the Legion’s national target of £43 million to continue its vital work delivering practical, through life care and support to the Armed Forces community.
