Beverley will this weekend get to enjoy a special show as a part of the Hull UK City of Culture 2017 celebrations.

On Saturday 14 January from 6PM to 8PM a special show, Hullywood Icons will run simultaneously at Beverley Minster and St Mary’s Church.

Quentin Budworth, a lens based artist who lives in Bridlington who created the show will bring his work to Beverley which has been made possible thanks to the support East Riding of Yorkshire Council have given to Hull UK City of Culture.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mr. Budworth told HU17.net;

“We are coming to Beverley because we love the town and were lucky to receive support from the ERYC for the project to share the work with the people of East Yorkshire.

“People will see people from Hull and East Yorkshire recreating iconic moments from movie history in local locations.”

“It’s a slide show with It has an original soundscore by Beverley musician Zebedee Budworth and is organised thematically in reels it is by turns overwhelming, underwhelming and hugely amusing”.

Mr. Budworth says that support from the venues and the local authority have been key to getting this event in Beverley, he added;

“Beverley Town Council Clerk Helen Watson and the vicars of Beverley Minster and St Mary’s really were keen to host this unique event.”

“This is a taste of locally made art with an international reach. Made by the people of Hull and East Riding for a global audience.

However none of this would have been possible had it not been for Hull winning the bid to be this year’s City of Culture.

Mr. Budworth added;

“City of Culture presents many opportunities for people to enjoy and participate in the arts. It is a beacon from our region to the world and we should make the most of our year in the spotlight.”
