Walking Netball Sessions To Start In Driffield

Brand new walking netball sessions are to launch in Driffield later this month with the aim of helping ladies who may be worried about their fitness levels or mobility issues discover the sport for the first time or re-discover their love of the game.

The sport was introduced to the East Riding in 2015, by the council’s Sport, Play & Arts Service with the support of England Netball, and has gone from strength to strength ever since with weekly sessions now taking place in Beverley, Haltemprice, Withernsea and Goole.

The new weekly sessions which start at East Riding Leisure Driffield on Friday 20 January are the latest to arrive in the area and it is hoped they will give even more people the chance to discover the benefits of the sport.

Sport and active communities officer, Sarah Johnson, said: “Walking netball is a fantastic way for ladies to get fit regardless of their age or ability while being a part of a team and making new friends along the way.

“Since the sport was first introduced to the East Riding almost two years ago it really has gone from strength to strength, with more and more people discovering just how the sport can benefit them.

“We are really pleased to be able to now be bringing the sport to Driffield and we would invite anyone who wants to give it s try or find out more to get in touch or come along to the first session.”

Targeted at ladies over the age of 50, the sessions aim to provide fun, sociable netball games and skills on a reduced size court with adapted rules and are ideal for those who may want to improve their fitness or are unable to play running netball.

The new sessions will take place every Friday afternoon 1.30-2.30pm, from 20 January onwards, and will be free of charge for the first six weeks, with sessions costing £2.10 each thereafter.
