East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s countryside access team has arranged two events to round off February half term holiday in style.

A Hedgelaying Conservation Day at Flamborough Outer Headland on Saturday 25 February offers the chance to learn new skills and practice the art of hedgelaying.

Participants will learn how to lay a hedge in the local Yorkshire style and also recreate an excellent habitat for the wildlife on the nature reserve.

The Day runs from 10am to 3pm, and participants can stay as long as they wish. The event is free, and is suitable for adults. Young people aged 16-18 can attend if accompanied by an adult. Participants should meet at Flamborough Outer Headland Local Nature Reserve Lighthouse car park (parking charges apply).

On Sunday 26 February, there will be a ‘Tracks and Casts’ session at Oakhill Nature Reserve in Goole. This will be a chance to stalk around the reserve, looking for tracks left by the many animals on the reserve, and identifying which animals they belong to.

Participants will then use craft materials to make a cast of the tracks which can be taken home as a memento of the day. Guidance will be given by artist Shealagh Cynfal-Wells.

The session runs from 10am – 1pm and participants should meet at the Oakhill Nature Reserve car park off Tom Pudding way, Goole. The event is free.

Booking is essential for both events, and can be done online at www.eastriding.gov.uk/events or by telephone on 01482 395320 during office hours.
