The blue and golds will resume their tough pre-season this Saturday. Beverley ARLC will again take on National Conference opposition in the shape of Hull Dockers.
The East Hull outfit should again provide testing opposition for Scott Taylor’s men. They were relegated from NCL Premier to NCL 1 last season and are looking to re-build.
Taylor commented;
“These friendlies have been more about performance rather than results and a place in the 17 next week against Skirlaugh Bulls is up for grabs.”
He will no doubt be keen to have a good look at his half back combination as new signing Lewis Straw together with Lewis Poskitt have so far shown a lot of potential for 2017.
Meanwhile, the club has decided to pull out of the BARLA National Cup with a number of factors influencing their decision. They had been due to visit Fryston in the competition last weekend.
Taylor, O’Connor and Howdle all agreed it was for the best. If the blue and golds had defeated Fryston, (and it would have likely to have been a tough encounter), the next round would have clashed with the 40/20 cup semi-final.
Further progress would have seen them have to cancel a Yorkshire League fixture and then a possible clash with the 40/20 cup final.
Also, this year’s BARLA National Cup received a record low entry of just 21 teams indicating it is sadly not the competition that it was. It would seem the club could win much more accolades in going flat out for the league and 40/20 cup.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 2pm at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
