HERIB stands for the Hull and East Riding Institute for the Blind, the charity currently supports just over 2,300 people with sight loss in the area.

HERIB provides services such as information, equipment and support for its members, they also provide home visits and have other mobile resources.

The charity runs day groups throughout the week and a ‘socialeyes’ programme, in order to reduce isolation of individual members and improve their general well-being.

Angela Gregory from HERIB, spoke about the charity and also received £250 donation.

She said;

“Today somewhere in Hull & East Yorkshire someone was told that they are losing their sight and because of you, HERIB can answer their call for help”.

“We will be using this money to help fund our Home Visiting Service. Our Community Advice Officers made more than 4,000 Home Visits last year and this is service is particularly important when someone is newly diagnosed with sight loss. Their emotional and information needs can be significant. It can be a devastating time.”

HERIB say that donaitons like this are important for them to continue their work in the community. As a chaity they receive no government funding, with all of their operations are ran from donations they receive.

Angela also said that eighty-eight pence from every pound goes to support services, such as the home visits and day groups, and HERIB has around 30 referrals a month.

Next month HERIB will be hosting their ladies luncheon at the Mecure Grange Hotel in Willerby.

The event which is one of the highlights of our fundraising year will feature a talk from their guest speaker, London 2012 Paralympic Gold Medallist Naomi Riches M.B.E.
