A mini farm will visit Hull’s Old Town this year as International Hanse Day returns for 2017.
Visitors to the event will have the chance to pet lambs, pigs and a goat whilst learning about livestock in the Middle Ages on Saturday 13 May.
This new addition will feature alongside re-enactors bringing High Street to life as a medieval marketplace. A candle maker, potter, bread baker and incense trader will show off their skills, whilst visitors will have the chance to have a go at hammering their own coin as the medieval mint sets up shop.
Museum Quarter gardens will be home to modern Hanse with a staged area for performances of song, dance and crafts from our Hanseatic neighbours, with food stalls and an array of children’s activities.
Back by popular demand is cheeky jester Peterkin the Fool (picture attached) who will perform fire breathing and stilt walking throughout the day. Music will also be provided through the day by medieval entertianers Merrie Noyse and Haute Bois.

“Following the success of 2016’s pilot where we saw 12,000 people visit High Street for this event, I’m pleased that 2017’s event is back bigger and better.
“We are seeing record numbers of people visit Hull as we celebrate our year as UK City of Culture, and it’s events like the Hanse Day that also offer visitors and residents an insight into the city’s history.
“I’m very much looking forward to seeing the area come to life as we journey back to medieval times and I have no doubt visitors to this free family event will enjoy themselves.”
This family-friendly event takes place 10am – 4pm and is free to enter.
