A campaigner who wants a public inquiry into child sex abuse at a care home in East Yorkshire was in Beverley collecting signatures for his petition.

Darren Furness who was a pupil at care home close to Market Weighton has been fighting for this for over 30 years and says he will carry on fighting till the day he gets answers.

Child Sex Abuse Campaigner Gets Good Support In BeverleyMr. Furness certainly got the attention of shoppers with many of them stopping to sign his petition, make financial donations and offer their words of support.

His message which was displayed on a disused shop read;

St William’s Children’s Home is the biggest abuse case in the UK where 249 young boys were beaten,

drugged and raped by Catholic Priests, Brothers and other staff for over 30 years, but the British care system let us down – why?

Millions spent on cover ups why? But still no apology!

It was covered up from 1972-1992 by the Police, Catholic Church, Social Workers and the Home Office. – Why?

We now want a public inquiry into the Police. Social Care and Home Office. Sign here today and help us get the justice we deserve – Thank you.

Myself and 248 other survivors suffered serious abuse at the hands of evil men. We are now asking the general public to support us with our fight for public inquiry.

In January 2016, Anthony McCallen (69) and James Carragher (75) were convicted of a total of 35 sex offences against 11 boys spanning a 21 year period.

Sentencing the pair the judge said;

“Each of you targeted some of the most vulnerable boys. You groomed them and abused them for your own sexual gratification.”
