Employment in the city is now the highest on record, with increases in employment for the sixth consecutive quarter.

The number of people in work has risen by a significant 800 people in the latest quarter, compared to the previous quarter.

Employment in Hull is increasing faster than the national average, and unemployment now stands at 7.3 percent of the population.

These figures come as the city sees unprecedented visitors during the first season of UK City of Culture and over 40 new businesses open in the city centre since 2014.

Chief Executive of Hull City Council, Matt Jukes said:

“When we launched the City Plan in 2013 our key ambition was to create 7,500 jobs for local people through projects and investments.

“We have seen several major companies invest in the city since then, helping to create these jobs; and we’ve seen hundreds of people trained through initiatives such as the Green Port Hub and Pathways to Employment.

“I’m delighted that we are now realising our ambition, achieving the highest employment on record in the city. We will continue to work to ensure Hull is a place that is brimming with culture, enterprise and opportunity.”
