Local Judo Ace Holly Bentham Selected To Represent Country

Longcroft Sixth Form pupil, Holly Bentham, has been selected to be part of Team England competing at this year’s Youth Commonwealth Games.

The games are being held in Nassau, The Bahamas, commencing on the 18 July and concluding 5 days later on the 23 July and cover a multitude of sports including athletics, swimming, rugby 7s, tennis, beach volleyball along with Holly’s chosen sport of judo.

 In total Team England comprises of 72 athletes therefore selection is a major achievement for all of those chosen reflecting the effort and dedication they have displayed.

 Indeed the notification of selection was the icing on the cake of what has been a tremendous year to date which has seen Holly rise to number 2 in the British rankings in addition to claiming titles in both domestic and international competitions, most recently in Sindelfingen, Germany.

Holly is excited by the prospect of meeting athletes from different parts of the world including Cameroon, Australia and India to name but a few, as they are all to be based together in the athlete’s village at the Breezes Resort.

Furthermore there are also plans for the judo contingent to train with local Bahamian players when the competitive element of the tournament is completed and experience other aspects of the Bahamian culture.
