East Riding of Yorkshire Council is looking to recruit new foster carers for children from babies upwards.
East Riding of Yorkshire council is holding two events in September at which people who are interested in becoming a foster carer can get more information. They are welcome to attend one or both of the events.
A drop-in event will be held at East Riding Leisure Bridlington on Saturday 9 September, from 9.30am to 12.30pm, when staff will be on hand to discuss what is involved in becoming a foster carer.
This will be followed by an information event at Tickton Grange Hotel on Thursday 14 September, from 6 to 8pm, when people interested in becoming a foster carer will have an opportunity to talk to fostering social workers and discuss suitability, meet foster carers and their birth children, talk to looked-after young people and hear about their experiences, and find out about free professional training.
East Riding of Yorkshire council is seeking foster carers for children of all ages, including sibling groups. There is also a need for people who are willing to be a short break foster carer for a child with a disability.
This could mean giving parents a break by looking after their disabled child for anything from a few hours a week, or a regular weekend stay. This would be in the foster carers’ home and they would receive an allowance.
Prospective foster carers should ideally be over 25, they can be single, married or co-habiting. People with or without families, heterosexual, lesbian or gay, can be foster carers.
Dave Glenville, the council’s fostering team leader, said:
“We are particularly looking for people who care about children and young people who need help, care and support at difficult times in their lives.
“Foster carers and their families are exceptional people. If you have the desire to help and can give the time, energy and commitment, we strongly recommend you to come along to an information event and find out how you can become involved in the much-needed and highly worthwhile role as foster carer for East Riding children.”
