Beverley Beavers U9 squad travelled to take part in the East Yorkshire U9 Rugby Union Festival on a most beautiful Autumn Sunday where temperatures reached a balmy 18 degrees for most of the day.

Teams in attendance were Hornsea, Hull Ionians, Driffield, Pocklington, Bridlington and hosts Scarborough. The schedule was pretty packed but yet again the Beavers brought their ‘A’ game.

Beverley RUFC were represented by  Imogen Hollis, Josh Blamires, William Aspin, Joel Hardy, Flynn Harwood, James Hebb and Alex Gorman.

With no substitutes available the squad knew that they would face a challenging day as many teams came with reinforcements.

Nonetheless, there was great work on show with the team being encouraged to off load the ball quickly and win the ball back when in defence. Still getting to grips with the new rules the team demonstrated some exceptional tackles remembering the ‘eye to thigh’ mantra.

Work is still to be done to get to grips with the ‘off side rule’ but by the end of an exhausting morning the coaches couldn’t have been more pleased with their stamina and efforts.

Player of the week was awarded to William Aspin for some excellent tackle work and really following the instruction to ‘truck it up’ throughout the game!
