East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced that work to improve the nature trail around South Landing Local Nature Reserve is due to begin soon. The work will mean restricted access to the site until Christmas.
The surface of the nature trail has deteriorated over the past few years, resulting in the surface becoming rutted and unusable, especially for users of wheelchairs and families with pushchairs.
The improvements to the trail will create a smooth, rolled stone surface, which will be accessible for all. Several drains will also be installed to help prevent the surface eroding in the future.
As machinery will be used to move materials through the site on a daily basis, the nature trail will need to be closed whilst the works are taking place.
James Taylor, countryside access officer for the council, said;
“The access improvements that will be starting soon are great news and will benefit everyone who uses the site. We apologise that the site will have to be closed for a while but the safety of visitors is of course paramount. Once completed, the newly -surfaced nature trail will be accessible for all for many years to come.”
Work will start on Monday, 6 November, and will be carried out from 8.00am until 4.00pm each day, Monday to Friday. Outside of these times, the site will be open to visitors as normal. Access from the car park to the beach will not be affected.
Work is scheduled to be completed by Christmas.
