A film made using a drone by the Aerial Picture Company about Beverley Minster has won an international award at the Washington DC Drone Film Festival 2017.
The film, ‘Beverley Minster Fly Through’ provides a completely unique perspective of Beverley’s most well known land mark scooped the award in the Architecture Category.
Cy Chadwick, a partner in the Leeds based business and the man who piloted the drone said they were delighted to win the prestigious accolade.
Speaking to HU17.net, Mr. Chadwick explained how the film came about, he said;
“We were asked to produce some video for the Tour de Yorkshire showing Beverley Minster for their promotional video.”
“While doing this we wanted to film inside though the equipment we had not suitable. We returned and with the support of Beverley Minster spent a number of mornings filming inside.”
“By doing this we were able to show the extraordinary architecture of the Minster, up close, views people would not normally see.”
“When shooting the film we went into the Minster early in the morning so we did not impact on their day to day business. This also worked well for us as the sun was low offering perfect light.”
“The film also shows what can be achieved with a drone inside a building to chart buildings of historic interest.”
While it may seem like a simple process Mr. Chadwick said air flow and the complex structure meant they used ‘spotters’ hidden behind pillars.
He added;
“We would like to thank everyone at Beverley Minster for their support and for allowing our cameras to capture the rarely seen perspectives.”
“Our many out of hours visits paid off, it was a great privilege.”
The Aerial Picture Company, who specialise in TV and film have also provided other footage from Beverley Minster shooting footage for BBC’s King Charles III.
