Beverley RUFC Colts Head Coach Ian Dobson says his backs were the difference as they thrashed Driffield RUFC 63-26 in their own back yard.
Beverley were rampant from the off and finished the game scoring and converting nine tries to beat their local rivals for the time in recent years.
Speaking to HU17.net after the game Dobson said;
“The difference between the two clubs was the backs, our backs were exciting with the ball, when we get into our moves our pace with ball in hand, we can damage people and we damaged them today.”
“We have a bit of work to do with our forwards getting to the ball a bit quicker but as a team performance, I have got finishers who are scoring tries at the end, the team played well.”
“Driffield have historically always caused us issues in this age group and this was our first win against them for some time.”
“We have grown as a side. We have got much better and have a very good squad that is growing and we are playing better rugby.”
“Driffield are just slightly off the pace now.”
Beverley’s try scorers were Rhys Ones, Ifan Downey, Bailey Wood, Brandon Leggit, Charlie Rawlins and Alex Hodgkinson who scored four.
Not only did Hodgkinson score four tries he also converted all nine scores in an impressive all round performance.
Commenting on the Colts kicking game, Dobson said;
“He was on form today. He’s a good long kicker and today he showed some great accuracy.”
Victory means Beverley’s Colts remain second in the table behind Pocklington though Dobson is still confident his side can win the title, he said;
“The league is there for the taking, if we carry on playing the way we are playing then we can certainly win the title.”
Beverley could face a gap in the fixtures next week as they are due to take on Thirsk, but will return to Beaver Park the following week when they will host Malton.
