East Riding of Yorkshire Council have confirmed that marshal’s will be place at the taxi rank in Beverley to help manage people so they can get home safely.
Last week the council announced that marshals would be on the rank in Saturday Market though members of the public and drivers said they no marshals were present between midnight at 4AM.
On contacting East Riding of Yorkshire Council they told HU17.net ‘they were trying to get to the bottom of what want on last weekend’ but did confirm marshals would be in place in Beverley on Friday, the night of Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve.
Local drivers and business owners in the town welcomed the news that the local authority were once again putting dedicated staff at the busy taxi rank in the centre of Beverley.
Drivers and say that by having marshal’s it helps keep some sort of order while making it safer for people who are trying to get home after a night in the town.
One driver told HU17.net that the marshal’s prevented the taxi rank from moving during busy periods which is caused by people getting into taxis in the wrong location.
Speaking to HU17.net they explained why marshal’s are a good thing saying;
“By having marshals people can line up safely and do not need to worry about other people pushing in as they know the next car that comes along is for them. Put simply it takes all the hassle out waiting for a taxi.”
East Riding of Yorkshire Council have also pointed out that the marshal’s will on the lookout for rouge drivers and taxis who are touting for business.
The council hope that everyone who goes out over the festive holidays has a good time and more importantly gets home safely using licensed and fully insured transportation.
