Witnesses are being sought after around 50 tyres were dumped on the roadside off the main A164 Beverley to Humber Bridge road.
Streetscene enforcement officers at East Riding of Yorkshire Council are investigating the major fly-tip which was discovered on a farm access road just off the A164, near Skidby.
The tyres, together with oil drums, tarpaulin and ropes, were reported to the council on the evening of Wednesday 17 January.
They have been cleared at the expense of council tax payers.
Mike Featherby, the council’s head of streetscene services, said:
“Someone may have seen these tyres being dumped, a load being tipped from a lorry, or seen a lorry carrying a load of tyres in that area, so we’d like anyone with information to contact us.
“The council investigates all reports of fly-tipping and any evidence found will be used to bring a prosecution.”
Anyone found guilty of fly-tipping could be ordered to pay a £400 fixed penalty notice, or if the case goes to court they could face an unlimited fine or even imprisonment.
