Sophie Day gave up her hair, something she has been growing for four years so it can be used to make wigs for children fighting cancer.
Sophie, who works at Edward House Dental Studio in Beverley decided to go ahead with the challenge following attending a charity ball.
Explaining more about how she decided to cut her hair she said;
“My work colleague Maria Goulden told me about a fund raising ball she is very involved in for a cancer research charity called Emma’s Wish. After attending the event I got a true understanding of the charity and what it’s about.”
“A few weeks after Maria showed me the pictures of a young girl cutting her hair for the charity.”
“That girl raised a lot of money and donated her hair. Maria gave me the idea that I ould do the same and from that I was determined to plan and carry out me cutting my hair.”
“I then realised that why just cut my hair and put it in the bin when it can be used to make a wig for children that have lost their hair. I was able to do this as it is over the minimum 30cm rule.”
Sophie aimed to raise a £100 but has already exceed that with £200, a figure that is rising as more donations come in.
Last week her hair finally came off. After contacting the El Turco in Beverley, they agreed to help Emma and re-styling her hair with a new short look.
Expressing her thanks to those who have supported her, Sophie said;
“I would like to say a big thank you too Robert and his team at El Turco for putting in so much effort and doing the haircut for me. I also want to thank Maria who helped me plan the event and persuaded me to do this.”
“Doing this has made me realise how much good this charity actually does for people. I chose to donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust as what they do for young girls who have lost their hair is very inspiring.”
Thanks to this kind gesture by Sophie, two good causes will benefit, The Little Princess Trust and Emma’s Wish.
