For the first time ever, the leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, and leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Stephen Brady OBE, will debate with each other as part of The Business Day at Bridlington Spa on Friday 8 June. The leaders’ debate will be chaired by The Right Honourable Alan Johnson.
With business networking at the heart of a day of discovery and insight, 650 business leaders from across the region will also hear from headline speaker Joanna Lumley, social entrepreneur Josh Littlejohn and Yorkshire cricketing legend Geoffrey Boycott. The Business Day will be hosted throughout by journalist and broadcaster Naga Munchetty.
The debate will be chaired by Alan Johnson, with business leaders given the opportunity to ask questions of both Leaders.
Councillor Parnaby said “I’m looking forward to the debate, the first of its kind. I’m sure it will show the close personal relationship we both have.
“It’s important that East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull City Councils work with each other. Hull is our city and the biggest generator of economic growth in Hull and the East Riding. A lot of East Riding residents and business people work in the city and a lot of Hull people either work in the East Riding or visit regularly. Working together is integral to the success of the East Riding and Hull.”

“The day showcases all that is great about the region and its dynamic businesses. The close working relationship between the private sector and the councils has delivered real growth in the area and quality employment for our communities.”
Mr Johnson said “As an MP for 20 years in the only constituency that straddles Hull and the East Riding, I got to know and respect both council leaders over the years. They have always understood that the fate of the two local authorities is intertwined.
“I’m looking forward to discussing the challenges and opportunities ahead for our sub-region and to ensuring that the audience is able to fully participate in the dialogue.”
