Blue & Golds Head Coach Scott Taylor says he is going to stick with what he believes ahead of his sides opening day fixture in National Conference League this Saturday.

Beverley will welcome Barrow Island to the Beverley Leisure Centre this Saturday with Taylor issuing something of a statement of intent with regard to his players.

Speaking ahead of the match, Taylor said;

“We’ve finally reached the point  where even if lads are  training but not performing well and other lads are training in the same position then they will get a shot.”

“In recent years I’ve not been able to do that but now I can.”

“On a similar note, we’ve got lads who have been training since November and performing well in the friendlies and they will be the ones to get the shirt and it will be theirs to lose.”

“If I signed Gareth Ellis tomorrow he would have to go through that process and perform well in a friendly or ‘A’ team game. Amateur or not I am going to stick with what I believe in.”

Taylor is not expected to reveal his line-up until Saturday morning. He will have to look to the squad as with  full back Billy Riby  and joint captain Jack Howdle both ruled out due to injury.

Lewis Straw and Lewis Poskitt should be back, Chris Johnson is also likely to be fit and feature on Saturday whilst Peter Starling looks to be favourite to step into the breach in the problem full back role.

Saturday game with Barrow Island is a huge game for the club who mark their return to the NCL for the first time in around 20 years.

Off the pitch the club has been working hard to raise the match day experience, their efforts include the launch of their Match Day Programme.

Beverley against Barrow Island gets underway at 2.30PM.
