Emerging ensembles and a vital connection with the community, are core themes for the recently REYTA shortlisted 2018 Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival, 24 – 27 May.

 Following a successful 30th anniversary in 2017, which included an exhibition at Beverley Minster, the Festival was shortlisted for a Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Award (REYTA) in the Remarkable Small Tourism Event category, to be announced later in March.

Delma Tomlin, MBE, Festival Director and Director of the National Centre for Early Music said;

“We had a wonderful celebratory year last year, and the engagement with audiences and with the local community was exceptional. This year the programme is equally delightful, and we are bringing some new finds to Beverley, something a little special and intimate, involving performers who are now established on the international stage.

 “I’m proud to highlight that one of our founding principles all those years ago, was to engage with the local community and create music and performance to reach all ages, abilities and interests. This remains very much at our core, as we begin a new and exciting project with Castaway Goole; we offer a recorder session with one of the leading players in the country, Piers Adams; and we add to that a mix of illustrated talks and high-quality performance. There’s a great deal to look forward to.”

Organised by the National Centre for Early Music and supported by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the festival is grateful to its funders, audiences, and supporters.

The spring festival is a celebration of music from London – to Venice – to Vienna, following the European ‘Grand Tour’ and is presented in some of England’s finest churches, from the majesty of Beverley Minster to the award-winning heritage centre that is now St James’ Warter. This is a season of firsts and extraordinary encounters for the Festival.
