This weekend (Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September) will see the return of the Bridlington Weekend of Motoring 2018, organised by Tour Britannia on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Once again, the weekend will feature a wide range of events to appeal to anybody with an interest in any aspect of motoring.
Saturday (8 September) will include a Scenic Run, organised by North Humberside Motor Club. The non-competitive run is aimed at classic cars and modern sports tourers, but entries will be accepted for any vehicle.
The event will start and finish at Bridlington Spa – the start time will be 10.30am and the 75 mile route will take in the Holderness area. Entry forms are available from www.northhumbersidemotorclub.co.uk
Also on Saturday, 8 September, the theatre at Bridlington Spa will be converted into a cinema all day to show some great motoring-related feature films including Rush, the story of the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda; Senna, exploring the life and work of this triple world champion; and The World’s Fastest Indian, the biography of Bert Munro and his bid to gain the world speed record on a highly modified Indian motorcycle. Tickets to see these films will be offered free in return for a donation to the RNLI.
On the Saturday evening, there will be a first for the town as Bridlington Spa, Tour Britannia and the RNLI join forces to present Out to Dinner with Abbie Eaton. Abbie Eaton is a successful GT racing driver from the East Riding of Yorkshire who has made repeated appearances on Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour as the season two test driver, replacing The American!
The event has been organised by Tour Britannia; the catering, ticketing and staging will be provided by Bridlington Spa, and the RNLI Bridlington Lifeboat will be tractored out of the Lifeboat House for the evening to create an unusual and exciting event dining space.
Tickets for the evening including a three-course dinner and Abbie’s presentation are £29.50 for individuals, and tables of eight are available at just £200; with a proportion of the profits and the takings from the evening’s sealed raffle donated to the RNLI.
This will be the first dinner to be held in this superb new building and the event organisers are extremely grateful to the RNLI for making this opportunity available so enthusiastically.
Tickets are available from Bridlington Spa’s box office, by telephone on 01262 678258 or online at bridspa.com.
Completing the Saturday programme will be ‘Race the Waves’ from 10am-2pm on Bridlington South Shore, with British, classic / traditional style motorcycles and American, Hot Rod style cars, lining up to run on the sand, and performing straight-line Drag Runs. There will be areas for classic cars, super cars, bikes, super bikes, race cars, rally cars or any other quirky or interesting vehicles.
