We must take back control before it’s too late – that was the message when Labour Party activists took to the streets of Beverley on Saturday.
Hundreds of people took the opportunity to tell Party members of their fears that Britain is moving towards a no deal Brexit outcome.
Local Labour Party members say that public opinion is growing stating that a General Election might be the only way to avoid a cliff edge Brexit which could devastate people’s lives.
Beverley Labour Party’s George McManus who was on the streets in the Town centre said;
“It’s astonishing how things are turning around. With only months to go until Britain’s departure from the EU, there is still no clarity regarding any exit proposals.”
“People who voted Leave were telling us they still think we should leave but that they thought it would all have been sorted by now.”
“People who voted Remain were telling us that the only way out of this chaos is, to be honest with the public and give them another referendum.”
Pressure is mounting on Prime Minister Theresa May and her government as they struggle to resolve the UK’s position on Brexit with Boris Johnson branding his leaders plan as ‘deranged’.
As the UK free falls towards leaving the EU Mrs May insists she cares about Brexit while insisting she is doing all she can calling for her own party to come together and get the best deal for Britain.
Mr McManus feels Mrs May’s party and the nation have lost all confidence in the PM, he said;
“It’s quite clear that Beverlonians feel sympathy for Theresa May but that due to Tory Party in-fighting, they have lost confidence in her ability to deliver a deal that will protect their jobs and their prospects.”
“It’s clear that we need a new approach and that it will only happen with a change of government. They were telling us that she should call a General Election if she can’t deliver a deal.”
“Their message was clear ‘A No deal’ outcome is unacceptable.”
The UK is set to leave the EU on 29 March 2019. Yet despite holding months of talks with fellow EU member states has failed to secure a deal or resolve the complex issue of the border in Ireland.
