Humberside Police have executed a successful drugs raid. As a result of the raid a large number of cannabis plants in East Yorkshire.
Police say the action was taken after a tip-off from a member of the public who noticed the smell.
The smell reported turned out to be the ‘Class B’ substance cannabis which was being cultivated at the address.
In a statement released, Humberside Police said;
“Following information provided to us from a member of the public. A significant amount of cannabis plants have been seized from a location in Withernsea.”
“The drugs were found after a strong smell was noticed coming from the building.”
“In response to this, a warrant was executed on Monday morning under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a disused bank on Queen Street.”
“It’s estimated that more than 250 plants were found growing in six different rooms in the building.”
“Two men have been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and are now in our custody.”
“Work is now being done by officers to make the building safe.”
Techniques used by cannabis growers put lives at risk
Cannabis growers use a lot of electricity to power the heat lamps needed. Most cases the farmer of the plants will tap into electric mains illegally. Due to this, they are not protected by a fuse.
Furthermore, cannabis farms, while illegal also put peoples lives who are not involved at risk. Above all grows are set up in tight spaces like lofts. By doing this it creates a genuine fire hazard that can spread quickly between properties.
Landlords have a responsibility to check on their tenants. Any illegal activity such as cultivating cannabis plants should be reported to the police immediately.
Last week Humberside Police conducted another successful drugs raid in the East Riding of Yorkshire when they raided an address in Bridlington.
Local police are urging the public to get in touch if they have any information relating to drugs in their area.
