Free Parking at weekends is to be offered in Beverley and the rest of East Riding. Now in its ninth year, East Riding Riding of Yorkshire Council hope it will help boost sales on the high street.

Free parking will be available to motorists in all areas operated by the council. This will include both on and off street parking.

In a statement released the council said that in a time of uncertainty it is important they support local business.

A spokesperson for the council said;

“The Christmas period is a key trading time for our local high streets.”

“During the current period of economic uncertainty, it is vitally important that the council does all it can to support local businesses.”

“By offering free parking we hope it will also encourage residents and visitors to shop in the East Riding.”

Free parking will be on offer each and every weekend from 1 December to 23 December. Motorist will be able to park for free from 8AM Saturday until 8AM on a Monday Morning.

To help drivers looking to take advantage of the free parking, locations will be clearly marked. However, monists are being advised some controls will still be in place and enforced by traffic wardens.

These restrictions will include disabled parking bays, maximum stays and also controlled parking zones.

Free Parking Incentive Will Help Local Business

News that the council will again be offering free parking at weekends in December has been welcomed by traders. Some traders still feel that free parking should be offered all year round at weekends.

They say that anything that encourages people to come into Beverley and also stay longer is good for business. While others say this shows that parking costs do impact on the local weekend economy.

Currently, parking in Beverley can be a costly exercise. Time restrictions also mean people are unable to spend more time spending money in the shops and cafes.
