Bishop Burton College is to offer T Level qualifications in childcare. This new qualification is the equivalent to three A-Levels will on offer from September 2020.

Bishop Burton College will be one of a few colleges in the UK to offer this type of qualification. They say it provides a real alternative to A-Levels.

Assistant Principal Danny Brett said;

“The new T Level qualifications will be ideal for those who have completed their GCSEs and want to launch a career in a skilled profession.”

“It is a real feather in the cap of Bishop Burton to be chosen as one of only a few colleges in the country to launch these new qualifications.  T Levels will provide a practical alternative to A Levels for school-leavers.”

“These courses have been developed in partnership with related industries. This means students will be fully prepared for work.”

“We will be running the childcare course. This is because it was highlighted as a growing profession. It could lead to jobs in nurseries, play centres, schools, in community centres and much more.”

T Level courses will be launched by colleges nationally and will focus on construction, digital and childcare. While plans are in place to expand this nationally to 15 different niches.

Bishop Burton College will be running a childcare course. They say that this is due to a need for workers in the area was identified.

Students To Benefit From New T Level Qualification

Courses will combine classroom theory while there will also be some practical learning. Part of the two-year course will also include a three-month industry placement.

A new qualification, it has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses. Skills taught will ensure they meet the current needs of industry while fully preparing students for the workplace.

T Levels are not completely new idea.  However, excitement within the education sector has grown. This was due to the government announcing £500m a year extra funding for the post-16 skills reform.

News of the funding has been welcomed colleges across the country. While some industry leaders say it signals a step-change in thinking backed by proper investment.

With Ucas points also being awarded for T Levels it is good news for students. The Department for Education says that those completing them will have a stepping stone into higher education.
