Labour candidates in the East Riding Council elections are hoping to make gains at the expense of outgoing Tory candidates.
Campaigners say that response on the doorstep has been robust with residents complaining about overdevelopment with lack of infrastructure, cuts in spending on youth services, schools and elderly care.
Against the backdrop of increasing crime and council tax, they’re saying it’s time for a change at County Hall.
Beverley labour’s George McManus said;
“People are really disappointed that County Hall Tories are cutting services whilst increasing Council
Tax.”
“They’re telling us that since they elected a Labour Police and Crime Commissioner, they’re starting to see more police on the beat, but crime is still rising.”
During a recent visit to Beverley Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter spoke with people and business owners on the Swinemoor Estate.
This part of Beverley has seen an increase in nuisance fueled by cuts to services under the Conservative-led council.
Labour Party Says Tories Are Spoiling The Town
Mr Hunter said;
“Speaking to the some of the storekeepers there are some nuisance issues for them to deal with. They are not necessarily created by bad people, they just have a lot of young people hanging about by the shops.”
“There is very little for young people to do around here so naturally, they congregate around the shops. This can be intimidating for other people and when you have groups of young people hanging about together they can create a bit of a nuisance.”
“It is those kinds of low-level things people are concerned about. But when you are living with them day to day it is not low level.”
Mr McManus says the Tories are ‘spoiling the town’ he concluded;
“We need to support vulnerable groups and stop the Tories spoiling our town. We’re hopeful and confident that this will come through in the results on Thursday, which will see Labour gaining seats.”
Residents in Beverley will go to the Polls this Thursday. They will be electing county councillors and also parish council representatives.
This is Joke – The Labor Party voted for all the development that has taken place so far and against elements of the local plan that provided for infrastructure. George McManus lives in Skirlaugh so why does he care and why should he be elected in Beverley
Do the rosettes indicate the first three?
It appears not , more like a consolation prize.
