Liberal Democrats Say Local Political Landscape Is Changing

Deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats Denis Healy says the political landscape is changing.

His comments come after the Liberal Democrats demolished the Conservative Party to win another seat on East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The Liddems enjoyed huge gains local elections back in May. Their resounding success saw them take control of Beverley’s Historic Core.

Recent results in Bridlington were equally impressive. They polled 1,308 as the Conservative vote shrunk by 42pc. It was even worse for Labour who returned just 135 votes.

Speaking about the result Cllr Healy said;

“The people of Bridlington North have voted overwhelmingly for change. I know that Mike Mullens will do a brilliant job as their new Liberal Democrat councillor.”

“It’s clear that the political landscape in the East Riding has changed. Labour has completely disappeared.”

“Labour is without a single councillor in the whole 900 square miles of the East Riding. Their performance in Bridlington yesterday reflected that.”

Liberal Democrats Are A Clear Opposition

“The Liberal Democrats established themselves as the clear opposition at County Hall in May. This result adds to our numbers.”

“People in Bridlington and elsewhere in the East Riding are tired of being taken for granted. They want a stronger opposition. That is why they voted for it overwhelmingly.”

“Our job is to hold the Tories at County Hall to account. With this new endorsement from the people of Bridlington North, we will continue to do that with even greater vigour.”

“I just want to thank Mike for all his hard work, and the brilliant team of local Liberal Democrat activists who put their heart and souls into achieving this result. We look forward to welcoming Mike to County Hall next week.”

While this may have been a  bad day for the Tories, for Labour it was a total disaster. They finished fifth overall behind the Yorkshire Party and also UKIP.
