Two curry restaurants are closing each week in the UK. Industry experts say this as a result of rising costs, skills shortages and Brexit uncertainty.
They also say that for those who make the shortlist can give a vital boost to a curry house’s prospects.
It is not unknown for award winners to double their profits in the year following a win.
Yawar Khan, chairman of the Asian Catering Federation said;
“Having successfully lobbied government for the removal of the infamous ‘Takeaway Clause’ on the official ‘Shortage Occupation List’.”
“This prevented top restaurants with a takeout side to their business, from recruiting the best chefs from around the world, the future of the sector now looks much brighter.”
Mr Khan is also actively urging restaurateurs to up their game in terms of culinary standards. While he also pushes for them to improve customer service and marketing. He says this will help them to thrive and survive in a tough economic environment.
Asian Restaurants In Beverley Given Boost By New Government Policy
Mr Khan has also welcomed the government’s decision to extend overseas students’ right to remain for up to two years to find a job.
Students can now extend their stay after they finish their studies. He also hopes many of them will enter the hospitality sector when they graduate.
He added;
“The hospitality industry offers great prospects for intelligent, hardworking ambitious graduates. There are also real opportunities for rapid career advancement.”
It is not just the curry houses in Beverley that people can enter. Chinese, Japanese and also Turkish Restaurants can be nominated along with many others.
Finalists will be visited by a panel of judges led by Pat Chapman editor of the Cobra Good Curry Guide.
