Beverley Art Gallery is staying active during the lockdown. Even though it has to remain closed for the time being it has launched several campaigns on social media.
Curator Helena Cox explained:
“We want to take this time to ‘Celebrate Our Artists’. This is the name of our first campaign on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.”
“Every week, I will create a post about several of the wonderful artists whose work the gallery has exhibited in recent years.”
“The idea is to celebrate the amazing talent of our artists and revisit all the exhibitions we had over the years.”
“Doing this gives us a chance to express our gratitude to all the artists who worked with us. Also, it gives us the opportunity to showcase the amazing breadth of exhibitions and types of art that can be seen at Beverley Art Gallery.”
“Many artists are freelancers and find this time challenging. So applauding them for what they did in Beverley is also our way of giving their work more exposure and courage to get them through this difficult time.”
Beverley Art Gallery Want Public To Join In With Caption Contest
The second campaign launched last week is a ‘Caption Competition’.
Every week Beverley Art Gallery will post an image of an artwork from the Gallery’s collection. The public will then be asked to come up with the best caption.
Helena added:
“I have to say I was blown away by how inventive our responders were and all of the caption suggestions made me laugh out loud.-Isn’t this exactly what we need in these challenging times?”
“This also gives us and our visitors a chance to look at the artwork from our collections in a new light and with a humorous perspective.”
“The captions are all collated and we’re planning to make them all available either online or maybe even in the gallery once we reopen.”
