A move to the picturesque village of Swanland in East Yorkshire means Maureen and Rob Fitz-John are now within easy reach of their five grandchildren.

Having decided to downsize to be closer to their family, the active grandparents sold their previous four-bedroom property, 15 miles away in Lockington, taking advantage of valuable practical and financial help from Redrow.

They now live much closer to their son and his four children and their daughter and granddaughter.

“We’ve always lived around the area so I knew that Swanland would be a lovely place to live. Plus we do the school run for our daughter three days a week so the move needed to bring us closer to make this more accessible,” says Maureen.

Retired market researcher Maureen and retired chartered shipbroker Rob found the perfect home – a three-bedroom detached Warwick, at Redrow’s Swanland Heights.

And they used the housebuilder’s Help to Sell scheme to find a buyer for their previous property and set their relocation in motion.

“Even though we put our last home on the market during the initial lockdown, Redrow was still able to take care of the whole process including valuing and marketing the property on our behalf.  Redrow kept us informed at all times and, as soon as the first lockdown lifted, we had an influx of potential buyers. Once we’d accepted an offer, we were able to secure our new home at Swanland Heights,” Maureen explains.

“The Warwick is the perfect size for the two of us, we’ve got a spacious kitchen and dining area and separate lounge, plus we’ve got plenty of space for guests or if the grandchildren come to stay. It’s got the private outdoor space we wanted but, having lived in a lot of houses with large gardens, this time we have something a little more manageable and easy to maintain.”

The couple says moving into a home that doesn’t need extra work is what drew them towards buying a new build.

“There’ll be less maintenance and upkeep and we don’t have to make any improvements to bring it up to date inside. I like that new-builds are more energy-efficient and economical too,” adds Maureen.

Redrow currently has three and four-bedroom detached homes available at Swanland Heights with prices from £314,950 to £393,950, with some two-bedroom properties coming soon.

Steve Jackson, sales director for Redrow Yorkshire, says:

“For those needing to find a buyer for an existing property, Help to Sell is the ideal solution. We arrange a valuation, appoint an agent, help progress the sale and contribute to the selling fees. It can be used whether people are moving up the property ladder, sideways to a similar property or, like the Fitz-Johns, downsizing to something more manageable.”

A fully furnished show home is now open at Swanland Heights, Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5.30pm. Viewing is by appointment only via the website www.redrow.co.uk/swanlandheights or call 01482 977513 to speak to one of the sales team.
