The Evolution of Romance

The Evolution of Romance

Technology has changed the way we interact and socialise with one another. Businesses are run with virtual conference calls and emails over in-person events.

Romantic relationships have also been heavily impacted and changed by technology. Texts and social media have replaced the old-fashioned chivalry we admire in 80s romantic movies.

Nowadays, romantic relationships start with a swipe on Tinder followed by months of texting without ever meeting in person.

We have an endless supply of romantic options on our phones and little patience for meeting someone in real life. Although having options is a good thing, this new way of dating has ruined traditional romance’s cavaliere and excitement.

As coronavirus restrictions begin to lift, it’s time to bring back the old school romance trends. After all, we have spent the last year navigating all kinds of relationships virtually – it’s time for a change. Here are some ways you can spice up your love life and embrace your inner romantic.

Ask someone out in person

The 90s were a period of romantic gestures and mom jeans. Wear your favourite 90s jeans and ask someone out in person for once. No emoji can replicate the fear, excitement and rush of asking someone out in person and watching them blush.

If they say yes, you should also pick them up at their door. Stop sending ‘I’m outside’ texts and knock on their door instead. It will take a few seconds to walk to their door and is a brilliant way to start the date off charmingly and courteously.

Dress up for the date

Traditionally, dates were special occasions that people dressed up for. You don’t have to crack out your tuxedo and ball gown – but consider wearing something a little nicer than you’re everyday jeans. Put some thought into what you’re wearing to make a date a little more exciting and special.

Bring a gift

Traditional romantic gestures often involve flowers, chocolate and a great song. Use a chocolate delivery service in the UK to send a sweet treat to your new date.

Turn off your phones

The digital world tends to get in the way of real-life interactions. Turn off your phone, or at least out in your bag away from your hands and eyes. Social media can seep into every aspect of our lives, and it’s essential to show your date you want to spend quality time with them. Disconnect from your phone and enjoy the moment.
