On Monday 12 April, the Government roadmap entered into a new phase of restrictions easing with outdoor café and pub venues, hairdressers, gyms and shops being able to re-open – amongst many other activities.
Speaking after the first weekend under the relaxed restrictions, Chief Superintendent Darren Wildbore said:
“We are pleased that many were able to enjoy their first weekend of socialising under the new eased restrictions.
“For some, this meant the long-awaited meeting with their family members in a social setting whilst others took advantage of the nice weather at a local pub.
“Whilst we did see some incidents being reported over the weekend, these had no direct correlation to the lockdown restrictions easing. Our patrols have been at hot spots throughout our region and will continue to do so over the coming weeks.
“As the Government roadmap continues, I want to take this opportunity to remind people that this is not the time to become complacent.
“We must ensure we observe the social distancing guidance that is currently in place for the safety and wellbeing of our loved ones and we should continue to remain vigilant.
“Adhering to the guidelines to prevent the spreading of the virus must remain a top priority to protect our loved ones and our National Health Service.”
