In 1872, a Builder, Joiner, Plumber business was established at 29 Minster Moorgate, Beverley – Frank Stephenson & Son.
In the 107 years, it was owned and run by four members of the Stephenson family. It has been a well-established pillar of the community here in the town, serving as builders, plumbers and joiners – and as in those cases when needed, the local Undertaker.
In 1979, the family ownership retired – The Late Mr. Bernard and Shirley Stephenson, and the business was passed on to Mr. Tony Warburton, late of Beverley Veneers in 1979.
He continued to keep the family name and uphold the established reputation, mainly as a firm of family funeral directors. The late Mr. and Mrs. Pete Smith managed the business on his behalf for many years.
In 2012, the business was undertaken by Dignity Funerals, a British company centred on a high standard of excellence, but built on a firm foundation of family values and local people who know the community, know the people in the town, and work closely with the clergy, doctors, solicitors and have a support of local community projects.
Mr. David Wilson, Mr Kevin Eade and Mr Paul Holland as funeral directors are at the centre of the business assisted by a team of caring staff; caring for all the families who have need of them and are well known to people in the town.
It is their privilege, honour, and above all – to be able to carry on the work which Frank Stephenson began nearly 150 years ago.
The family name, memory, and reputation are still very much at the heart of what we do today and just as in 1872, we are local people fulfilling local traditions for the community we cherish.
