Manchester United to battle Chelsea for Camavinga
Manchester United have made one statement signing already this summer, bringing in number one target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund with a reported fee in the region of £73million . The spending looks set to continue with the young Englishman potentially linking up at Old Trafford by Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Rennes’ French starlet Eduardo Camavinga.
Speculation on Camavinga’s future has exploded over the last few days with Manchester United’s pursuit becoming a potential bidding war, exactly what Rennes’ want, as they look to encourage bids from Chelsea and PSG as well. However, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims that the highly rated French midfielder would be open to a move to Old Trafford this summer.
The Manchester club does not want to risk waiting another year. With Camavinga’s contract set to expire, he will be free to talk to other clubs as early as January with a host of top clubs monitoring his situation already. Rennes will now look to drive up the price and entertain bids from across Europe and Chelsea have reportedly also been in talks with the agent of the Camavinga.
Chelsea may hold an advantage over Manchester United and others in for Camavinga with an amicable relationship already firmly established with Edouard Mendy moving from Rennes to Chelsea in a deal completed last summer. The Blues have also dealt with the club in the past, sending Jeremie Boga on loan to Rennes in 2015 and of course they also signed another goalkeeping club legend and current technical director, Petr Cech from Rennes back in 2004.

Liverpool close to landing Renato Sanches
Lille midfielder Renato Sanches, 23, is set to sign a five-year deal with Liverpool after they made progress in transfer negotiations with Lille for the Portuguese rising star. Sports journalist Pedro Almeida claims an initial fee of €37m with a further €3m in add-ons is acceptable and Sanches will pocket around €4.5m a year. The 23-year-old has re-emerged as one of Europe’s brightest talents, rediscovering form for Lille, following an unsuccessful move to Bayern Munich and a terrible loan spell at Swansea.
It was speculated over recent weeks that Liverpool was also in a tug of war with rivals Arsenal to sign Sanches and it appears they have now won the race. Seen as a long-term replacement for the departed Gini Wijnaldum, Liverpool was also considering an offer for Saul Niguez, Porto’s Otavio or Nicolo Barella of Inter Milan but with a deal for Sanches close, they could turn their focus to other targets.
City eye Griezmann as an alternative option to Kane
Manchester City have identified France forward Antoine Griezmann if they fail to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to reports in Spain. Antoine Griezmann remains a more realistic option for Manchester City with the proposition of Kane leaving for the Etihad more difficult with their appointment of the new manager, Nuno Espirito Santo.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim Pep Guardiola is exploring alternative options including Barcelona star Griezmann and with their financial situation in tatters, relying mainly on player sales before spending and Griezmann could generate valuable transfer funds. City see Griezmann therefore a more than workable backup option as Tottenham prepares to stand firm over their desire to keep the England captain in London.
