East Yorkshire Buses say they will still encourage passengers to wear a face-covering when travelling when guidance changes on 19 July.
They say that they hope passengers will consider others when travelling including staff of the company as COVID infections continue to rise.
On Monday 19 July changes to guidance with relation to COVID will shift from law to personal responsibility.
A spokesperson for East Yorkshire Buses said;
“Although it’s no longer a legal requirement to wear face coverings in enclosed public spaces, we are still encouraging all customers to wear them out of consideration for our drivers and other passengers, especially as COVID infection rates are relatively high in our area at the moment.”
“People should also remember that there are some people who are unable to wear face coverings for medical reasons, and their disabilities are not necessarily visible, so are asked to please treat other passengers with consideration and respect.”
East Yorkshire Buses Will Continue With Enhanced Cleaning Regime
East Yorkshire Buses say they will continue with their ‘enhanced cleaning programme’ of their buses while urging passengers to use their common sense.
They added;
“During the pandemic, it has been recognised that public transport is safe to use, but we’re still continuing with our enhanced cleaning regime, which involves extra daytime cleaning of touchpoints such as handrails/poles etc, overnight disinfectant fogging of buses, and the provision of hand sanitiser dispensers on all buses.”
“We’d also remind people to follow simple, common-sense advice when travelling. For instance, washing/sanitising your hands before and after travelling, and not travelling if you have any coronavirus symptoms, however mild.”
England’s Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty has urged people to act with caution as Covid rules relax, saying the UK is “not out of the woods yet” and that hospitals could face increasing pressure from treating patients with the virus in the coming weeks.
