Beverley Minster Choir hosted two events as they made a return for the first time in over a year as a result of the pandemic. They are now seeking young people to join their ranks as they look to build for the future.
The first of these, a celebratory evensong saw the return of the full choir for the first time since March 2020 earlier in the month.
Robert Poyser, the Director of Music at Beverley Minster said;
“In spite of the challenges presented by the pandemic, we have managed to maintain and grow our choir, currently with over 60 members of the full choir, including more than 40 children and young people.”
“During the past year, our youngsters have achieved many musical successes, including two Oxbridge scholarships, 14 RSCM singing awards and numerous instrumental and singing ABRSM exams.”
Every year the choir says farewell to a number of youngsters leaving for universities around the UK and it is a key part of the choir’s process of renewal to recruit new members to its children’s choirs.
As part of this, the choir held a “Be a Chorister Experience” recruitment event on International Chorister Day.
Robert Poyser commented;
“Being a chorister at the Minster offers the opportunity not only for youngsters to develop musically but also build self-confidence, performance and teamworking skills.”
