Green Cleaning Company Strikes Gold At Prestigious Manufacturing Awards

Hull-based green cleaning company Bio-D has been announced as the winner of a prestigious award for energy and sustainability at a major regional manufacturing awards ceremony.

The Make UK Manufacturing Awards recognises the achievements of companies from across the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber. The winners of each category now go on to the National Manufacturing Awards Ceremony which will be held in London in January.

Creating ethical cleaning products that are responsibly sourced, plant-based, and use naturally derived ingredients, Bio-D was recognised for its achievement in the outstanding lengths it has gone to in order to reduce its carbon footprint and that of its customers.

This was as a result of its ‘two-year sustainability strategy which has been delivered half a year ahead of schedule. Using its mission, vision, and values to shape its goals, Bio-D established key objectives across the business to further advance environmental performance, doing all it could to enhance sustainability, improve recycling performance and the impact of the manufacturing process.

The strategy resulted in a substantial reduction in its use of plastic, a reduction in electricity usage, and an 85% reduction in carbon emissions from business travel. Looking forward, the company will continue to re-evaluate its ‘sustainability strategy’ over the next five years.

Lloyd Atkin, managing director at Bio-D, said of the win: “I’m delighted that we have won the Make UK Energy and Sustainability award, which is a result of a great team effort here at Bio-D. Sustainability is a key part of all aspects of the organisation, ensuring that our practices are as ethical as our products.”

June Smith, regional director for Make UK in the North of England, said: “These awards are a testament to the dynamic companies and individuals working within engineering and manufacturing. The sector remains at the heart of creating wealth in Yorkshire and the Humber and as we re-build our economy there will be a bright future for companies and individuals that make the most of their talent.”

The Make UK Awards were sponsored by Bevan Brittan.
