Liberal Democrat councillors are celebrating after the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has finally brought forward a planning application to construct the long-awaited Beverley Park & Ride.
The Liberal Democrats on East Riding Council have been campaigning for two years to persuade the council to bring forward the construction phase of the Park and Ride, but their proposals put forward to full Council on four occasions over the last two years have always been blocked by the ruling Conservative group.
This week the proposal inched closer to reality when planning officers posted detailed plans for the Park and Ride on the Council’s planning portal website.
The 500 space Park and Ride will be constructed on land off the Minster Way link Road include a terminus building, landscaping and pathways.
St Mary’s ward councillor, Denis Healy says there are still some hurdles to get through, he said:
“It’s been a long time coming, but I’m delighted that the council has now seen fit to bring this planning application forward, for a scheme that will be funded by the developers who have benefited from building in the area.”
“These developers will be paying for this scheme, which will help alleviate Beverley’s traffic problems, ease congestion in the town centre, and contribute to a greener future.
“My only regret is that the Conservative group have managed to block this on four occasions over the last two years, and this Park and Ride could have been up and running already if it hadn’t been for that.
“We still have to go through the hurdle of planning permission, when councillors on the planning committee will have the final say on whether these plans get passed, but I do hope that they will do the right thing for Beverley and give this the green light. It is long overdue.”
