Tesco Community Grants fund thousands of local community projects across the UK, helping to fight holiday hunger, tackle mental health, support young people, host community events and much more.

Since 2016 the scheme has supported over 40,000 community groups with more than £90million in grants.

In the Beverley area, East Yorkshire Foodbank received £1500 for their Big Breakfast Boost project. While Go Kids Go received £1000 for their wheelchair skills workshop  and The Wombles of Beverley received £500 to help them increase the number of children and young people engaged in litter picking

Mandy Thomlinson, Project Manager at East Yorkshire Foodbank, said:

“East Yorkshire Foodbank are absolutely thrilled to be the winners of the in-store customer vote in Tesco Beverley for a community grant. We appreciate the support of the people of Beverley for the food bank and the whole grant will be spent on food for our clients. This project is to introduce a wider variety of fruit and wholegrain foods to breakfast. Breakfast is so important so children are ready to learn and adults are set up for the day ahead.”

Vicki Hone, Fundraising Manager at Go Kids Go, said:

‘‘We are absolutely delighted to receive support from Tesco Beverley to help fund our wheelchair skills workshops.”

“These workshops are open to all local children and young people who are wheelchair users and we teach them how to be independently mobile in their wheelchairs. Please pass on our thanks to all Tesco customers for choosing Go Kids Go – your donation really does make a difference.’’

Paul Coe, The Wombles of Beverley Chairman, said:

“On behalf of The Wombles of Beverley, thank you so much for the grant of £500. It is vital money that will allow us to continue our great work in Beverley and the surrounding villages.”

“The support Tesco provide groups like ours is very welcome indeed and makes for stronger communities. Thank you.”
