Over 20 carol singers collected an amazing £694.00 in Beverley on Sunday 5 December for Hull Samaritans. The carol singers sang a variety of carols and Christmas songs on Beverley Toll Gavel for over 3 hours.
“The response was amazing,” said Samaritans Director Rob Carlisle, “We can’t believe the generosity of people donating so much money.”
He continued, “We were particularly pleased to be singing this year as 2021 marks our branch’s 60th anniversary.”
This is not the first time Hull Samaritans have sung carols in Beverley but last year the event was cancelled due to Covid restrictions.
he added;
“On behalf of the Hull Samaritans, I would like to thank everyone who was kind enough to make a donation. Also, I would like to thank those who volunteered to ensure this fundraiser took place at no cost to the charity.”
“What we raised will be used to support the work the Samaritans undertake in the local area.”
“As a charity, our goal is to prevent people from committing suicide. We do this by providing a 24/7 service all year round. Anyone who is feeling down and alone can call, email or text us.”
Samaritans Help People All Year Round But Christmas Tends To Be Busier
Rob says that the Christmas period is always busy for the Samaritans, he added;
“While we help people all year but the festive period often leads to more people reaching out to us. This can be due to a number of reasons as people feel isolated if they are spending Christmas Day on their own.”
“Every single day, around 16 people decide to end their own life across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.”
“Samaritans believe that by providing a safe place for people to explore their thoughts and feelings in confidence, they can help them find a way forward. But Samaritans are a charity and it’s donations that keep the Hull helplines open.”
