Beverley Minster is to host a concert by a professional African musician in the upcoming months.
The event is taking place at the Minster on Saturday 14 May from 5pm where the general public is invited to attend “Classical Afro Jazz and Pop” a performance by Cecil Jones.
A traditional Djembe drum and a saxophone will be played by Cecil Jones at the concert which is part of an ongoing series of events.
Cecil is a musician as well as a leader of the Open Doors Centre on Princes Avenue, Hull, which offers a place of refuge, welcome, and help to asylum seekers, refugees, and migrant workers.
Drumming Workshop For Young People To Be Held Ahead Of Afro Jazz and Pop Event
During Cecil’s time as a refugee, he had fled Sierra Leone, in West Africa. As a result, he has the first experience of some of the problems the people he helps face.
During the hour-long concert, which is a family-friendly affair, you can bring your children to enjoy the music. There is no charge for those under 18.
Tickets, priced at £5 for those 18 and over, are available on the Beverley Minster website. Guests will also have the opportunity to donate to the Open Doors Centre through a collection at the concert.
On the afternoon of the concert, Cecil will conduct a free Djembe drumming workshop in the Minster’s parish hall aimed at those aged 11 and up from 1pm to 4pm.
