On Friday 3 June 2022, the Town Council is preparing for a once in a lifetime event taking place across the Town Centre.
The 70th anniversary of the accession of HM Queen Elizabeth II to the throne will be celebrated this year across the country, with Beverley setting the stage for a wide range of events and entertainment.
A spokesperson for Beverley Town Council said;
“The Platinum Jubilee of a British monarch is an utterly unique experience and a true once in a lifetime event.”
“We have worked with UK Events Associates to make sure there is something for everyone, whilst other community groups, churches, pubs and restaurants will also be planning their own special events.”
The Big Jubilee Tea Party – North Bar Within
Her Majesty the Queen will have her Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday, 5th June, but in Beverley it will be a couple of days earlier on Friday 3rd.
Beverley is one of the few towns to retain its ancient gate on the north of the town, which is known as North Bar. Beverley will hold its own Big Jubilee lunch at the gates of our own town, while Her Majesty the Queen will dine at her castle.
You are welcome to sit down at any of the tables that will be waiting to welcome you and meet some new friends. We welcome people to bring their own food or to purchase some local delicacies. Please be respectful and enter into the spirit of friendship and fun with us. Acoustic concerts and activities will also take place in the Coronation Garden.
Platinum Jubilee Proms – Saturday Market Place
A beautiful historic Saturday Market area that is steeped in history and has ample space to host a stage and large screens is the ideal place to watch the celebration.
Various philharmonic orchestras and choirs will perform throughout the day until 8pm starting at 10am. Our event will be opened by the Town Mayor at 11:15am, the same time Her Majesty the Queen began her first enthronement 70 years ago.
This stage will play host to the Humberside Police Band, All for One Choir, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Catterick Army Band and the Culture Orchestra.
You are welcome to bring your own chairs to enjoy the music outside, even though it is encouraged that people visit the nearby pubs and cafes. We regret to inform you that alcohol will not be allowed, but you are welcome to bring a picnic. No formal seating will be provided, so bring your own, stake your claim, and enjoy the day!
Platinum Jubilee Pageant – Wednesday Market Place
Making sure both ends of the town centre are involved, events in Wednesday Market will combine a more thespian element with some of the region’s finest street artists, theatres, dancers and music to celebrate the reign of Her Majesty the Queen. There will also be face-painting, circus workshops and more.
Platinum Party – Flemingate
The Town Council’s aim is it link the whole town together, right from North Bar, through the marketplace and over the Flemingate Development, giving each unique area its own atmosphere and style of entertainment. Therefore, another stage will be located at Flemingate to entertain crowds throughout the day, with professional tribute acts performing music from every year of the Queen’s glorious reign.
Artists confirmed include Bootleg Buddy, The Larks, Cavernites, Kiss the Teacher, Tina and the Rockettes, Ultra Jam and Lady Gaga.
FlyPast
The council is also delighted to announce that a special Hurricane aircraft flypast is scheduled to place on the day at 3:30pm so long as the weather allows.
The Town Council said;
“The Queen is a remarkable woman and Beverley Town Council wanted to make sure our town celebrates her longevity and reign by staging a major event that the whole community can enjoy. After the pandemic, it will also be wonderful for residents to come together and celebrate this unique national occasion in our own local way.”
