As the cost-of-living crisis bites, Citizens Advice Hull and East Riding have seen a huge number of enquiries from local people struggling to stay on top of household bills.

Thanks to the tireless dedication of its volunteers and staff, Citizens Advice Hull and East Riding has continued to give essential advice and crisis support to help people find a way forward.

Following Volunteers’ Week, which ran from 1 to 7 June 2022, Citizens Advice Hull and East Riding wants to thank its volunteers for their exceptional contribution to the charity and the local community.

Volunteers will be invited to a celebratory lunch over the coming weeks, an opportunity to celebrate collective and individual achievements.

76 volunteers at Citizens Advice Hull and East Riding contribute a combined total of over 600 hours each week.

In the last year, Citizens Advice Hull and East Riding have helped over 24,300 people with over 100,000 problems, such as debt, housing, benefit and employment issues.

Celia Evans, a volunteer adviser, spoke of her volunteering experience, she said:

“It’s the best thing since sliced bread. The variety of the enquiries means there is never a dull moment.”

“There is a lot of support from colleagues if you need assistance in gathering the advice to give to clients. You never tell a client what to do, but give them their options. It’s a great feeling – which never goes.”

“The training to become a volunteer is second to none, along with ongoing training. I just love it and my CAB ‘family’.”

Stacey Provan, Head of Services at Citizens Advice Hull and East Riding said:

“We have an incredible team of volunteers who freely give their time and skills to ensure people across Hull and East Riding can get support in their time of need.”

“I’m particularly proud of the immense dedication they’ve shown during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis when demand for our help is so high.”

“Their dedication and commitment know no bounds. We simply couldn’t do it without them.”
