Charity Groundwork Yorkshire has received a donation to help fund their ‘Cooking on a Budget’ scheme.

The incentive is a project that supports families in the local area teaching them how to plan and cook affordable meals.

A donation of £500 has been awarded to them by the supermarket giant Tesco. Funds from the Tesco Community Grants have helped thousands of local community projects across the region.

Groundwork Yorkshire. Project Manager Karen Tozer expressed her gratitude, she said;

‘‘We would like to thank Tesco for our grant. There are some people who struggle with cooking and planning meals.”

“Through this project, we will be able to support local people in and around the Beverley area by building both their cooking skills and their confidence to cook healthy, affordable meals from scratch using fresh seasonal ingredients.’’

1st Cherry Burton scout group also received a grant. They were awarded £1000 for their ‘great outdoors’ project.

Tesco says that to date they have handed out over £90 in grants to 40,000 community groups across the nation.  Projects Tesco has helped kick start have tackled everything from helping to fight holiday hunger to supporting young people and mental health.

David Ryley, the Tesco Beverley Community Champion is urging local groups to get in touch so they can tap into this funding resource.

Tesco Community Grants are currently open for applications. They want to hear from food banks, schools, holiday clubs, sports clubs, charities and community groups.
