The Beverley Joint Youth Partnership has announced an event they will host in the town this September.
What promises to be an afternoon of fun, the event is aimed at young people in the town. Those behind the event say it is part of their ongoing efforts to help tackle anti-social behaviour in Beverley.
At the event which will take place at Beverley Leisure Centre, young people will be able to find out about the vast array of things to do. They will also be introduced to local role models and be offered the support they need.
Ongoing problems in the area have seen meetings held with residents and the authorities. Beverley was also recently awarded funding to help tackle the issues.
Police Sergeant Sophie Kemp said;
“I am fairly new to the Neighbourhood policing world but what concerns me most is the problem of displacing a problem. Once we cure a problem in one place, we certainly don’t want to push it to another area.”
“We don’t want to simply push the problem of antisocial behaviour around Beverley. We are not going to resolve these issues without supporting the youths involved in crime and ASB with opportunities, role models and diversionary activity.”
The day will feature a host of activities. On a packed schedule, one of the highlights includes Olympic Gold Medalist Luke Campbell MBE. While there will be a silent disco, a range of stalls and refreshments.
Goals Of Beverley Joint Youth Partnership Outlined
Sergent Kemp explained the makeup and role of the Beverley Joint Youth Partnership, she added;
“We have created the Beverley Joint Youth Partnership. It consists of the Cherry Tree Centre Youth club, the Making a Change team, East Riding Voluntary Action Service (ERVAS), Youth Offending Service (YOS), and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) Antisocial Behaviour Officer and Community & Partnership Officer.”
“The objectives of this group are to support each other’s events and diversionary activities, share information and intelligence, concerns and patterns around antisocial behaviour and crime.”
This is a free event and takes place at the Beverley Leisure Centre on Flemingate on Thursday 1 September from 2.30PM.
