Beverley Treasure House ‘Birds, Books, and Belfries’ Tours

Beverley’s Treasure House is hosting more tours of the popular exhibition ‘Birds, Books and Belfries’.

Francis Orpen Morris lived from 1810 to 1893, was an advocate for wildlife, an author, and a vicar at Nafferton and Nunburnholme. This exhibition explores his remarkable life and work.

A central theme of the book is Morris’ beautiful natural history books which were printed by Benjamin Fawcett of Driffield.

As well as the few films we have, there is also recent footage of the bird colonies at the RSPB’s Bempton Cliffs, which illustrates the habitats which Morris fought to protect during his lifetime.

Sally Hayes, curator of Treasure House, will lead tours on Wednesday, 7 September from 2.30pm to 2.30pm, and on Friday, 9 September from 10.30am to 11am, and the tours will take place at both times.

They will be an opportunity to discover more about the exhibition by taking a closer look at some of Morris’ books on display and hearing information that couldn’t be fitted into the exhibition, including how much the books would cost at today’s prices.

No booking is required for the tours, and they are completely free of charge.

You are invited to meet in the exhibition area of the Treasure House in Champney Road, Beverley, near the café, in order to attend the event.
